Founded in 2021 thanks to a massive mobilisation in civil society, bringing together scientists from all walks of life, consumer associations, environmental associations, as well as student and grower collectives, Planet-score labeling aims to inform consumers in a clear, nuanced and unbiased way. This label is intended to be transparent, simple but not overly simplistic, and to give food companies the keys to improving the quality of their food offering, thanks to the eco-design tools that underpin the label.
To guarantee the independence, expertise and integrity of Planet-Score labeling over the long term, the brand is owned by the Solid Grounds Endowment Fund. It has entrusted the license to the Planet-score SAS company, which is responsible for food product deployment . Planet-score currently works with over 300 brands, in France and internationally (30 countries), on 200 million packages, and on over 135,000 food products in UFC Que Choisir's free mobile application. This makes Planet-Score the leader in independent environmental labelling.
The Fund's total independence from any company, industry or trade union guarantees that the Planet-score brand is used strictly to serve the general interest and consumer transparency.
Planet-score labeling is one of the four pillars of the Fund's mission, with the aim of restrengthening confidence in the agri-food sector's value chain, from upstream to downstream. In all consumer studies, in France as in other European countries, this confidence is built on the total independence of economic players and public authorities. The Fund is not subsidized, and donators do not have influence over its work.
This system enables us to take concrete action so that all those who wish to do so, from upstream to downstream, can take up the challenge of sustainability in the agri-food sector.
